Welcome to the South African Gold Award Holders Association (SAGAHA). In this section you can read more on what's happening in our alumni programme for Gold Award Holders (GAHs). Launched by TPA, in the Eastern Cape during 2006 and in the Western Cape in 2007, the key aim of SAGAHA is to allow Gold Award Holders to continue to experience the benefits of the Award Programme. SAGAHA will soon be launched in Gauteng where we already have a few GAHs eager to see their regions launch their own committees. If you are a GAH, we would enjoy hearing from you. You can click on the Stay In Touch menu on the left and give us your details so we can add them to our growing database of GAHs.
The launch of SAGAHA in South Africa took place during July 2006 in Grahamstown,. The meeting looked at ways that the Award programme can be supported and promoted by the GAHs. There were lots of contributions on the role of GAHs; from assisting with Youth Committee activities to hikes and residential projects, to making presentations at agencies and marketing at Award ceremonies. The meeting culminated with the selection of Janelle van Onselen, Christopher Mc Connachie, Venita Maharaj and Gareth Nolan to the regional SAGAHA Committee of the Eastern Cape.

The first national meeting took place in Grahamstown at the Highlander Club, where the Eastern Cape Committee played host to GAHs from the Western Cape. The meeting was also attended by two GAHs from the Grahamstown Correctional Services Centre. It was great to see such a diverse mix of young people. Unfortunately Venita Maharaj has moved to the Western Cape, so the EC SAGAHA loses one of its members BUT we are hoping that Venitha will be part of the soon to be launched Western Cape SAGAHA!
